                            File No. SAT—STA—19980505—00042 (Old File Nos. 112—SAT—STA—98;
                            113—SAT—STA—98)

Dear Ms. Dortch:

                On behalf of EchoStar Satellite Corporation ("EchoStar"") and Directsat
Corporation ("Directsat"), I am writing to withdraw the above—captioned Consolidated
Emergency Alternative Requests for Special Temporary Authority ("Consolidated STA
Requests"), filed May 5, 1998, to the extent that the Consolidated STA Requests are still
pending. In the Consolidated STA Requests, EchoStar and Directsat requested temporary
authority to operate two of their Direct Broadcast Satellite ("DBS") satellites, EchoStar 1 and
EchoStar 2, at 119.2° W.L. and 119.05° W.L., respectively.

              EchoStar 1 and EchoStar 2 are now located at the 148° W.L. orbital location,
mooting those requests to the extent they have not already been acted upon by the Commission.‘
Accordingly, there is no need to burden Commission resources with further processing of the
Consolidated STA Requests.

        \ See EchoStar Satellite Corporation, Memorandum Opinion and Order, 13 FCC Red.
8595 (1998) (granting EchoStar authority to operate EchoStar 1 at the 148° W.L. orbital
location). EchoStar 2 operates over the 16 even—numbered DBS channels at the 148° W.L.
orbital location pursuant to Special Temporary Authority. See File No. SAT—STA—20030115—
00002.
