Subject: LIGHT SQUARED PROPOSAL

Dear Mr. Genachowski,

I appreciate the FCC having taken the position to deny Light Square’s proposal which would have
denigrated the GPS signal on which I rely in my outdoor endeavors. I have entered each of the
shoals (aka riffles) on the tail waters of the Cumberland River for a forty mile stretch from Wolf
Creek Dam to the Tennessee line south of Burkesville, KY.
The tail water levels are determined by electrical generation at the dam. These shoals therefore,
are sometimes in open view and sometimes just below the surface. I have charted the beginning
and end of each shoal on my GPS. I am able to travel the river at normal plane depending on the
certainty of my GPS warning me prior to approaching these shoals. I am thus able to return to
idle speed well in advance of shallow water.
I appreciate the FCC anticipating the danger Light Square would have imposed upon the GPS
accuracy upon which so many of us depend. Thank you and your staff for your diligence.

Sincerely,

Edward M. Cook
