Dortch Secretary Federal Communications Commission Office of the Secretary 445 12th Street SW Washington, DC 20554 Dear Ms. Dortch: Given the critical need for first responders to have access to reliable, high—bandwidth communications technology, I hope you will vigorously continue the FCC‘s efforts to resolve the issues that threaten to eliminate much needed upgrade to the nation‘s wireless broadband capability and allow public safety providers to employ this important technology. I understand that concerns have been raised that a new player in the broadband business by the name of LightSquared has a system which could interfere with GPS signals used by public safety agencies. However, I see that FCC is addressing these issues, in cooperation with LightSquared, and representatives from the public safety community, among other stakeholders LightSquared is well known to the public safety community and is a trusted provider of quality services. It is also my understanding that this new system will enable the underserved communities in Illinois with services that only the major metropolitan areas now enjoy.
