Dortch, Secretary Federal Communications Commission 445 12th Street SW Washington, DC 20554 Re: In the Matter of LightSquared Subsidiary LLC Request for Modification of its Authority for an Ancillary Terrestrial Component; SAT—MOD—20101118—00239 Dear Ms. Dortch: I wanted to take this opportunity to comment on the potential LightSquared 4G network and its importance to those of us who live and work outside urban areas, especially those of us in the communications industry. We have learned to deal with Internet networks that do not come close to matching those of other areas, and we realize that other countries are far, far ahead of us when it comes to being connected. I can assure the FCC that faster broadband would bring increased economic activity into our rural communities. But, of course, the LightSquared network has unique abilities, because of the satellites, to bring cell phone coverage and email to areas that do not have that capability now. For those of us who enjoy the backcountry and wild areas of the west, the ability to make emergency calls from virtually anywhere is a huge increase in safety. Just in the area of emergency communications, this will have a huge impact on my community. I would urge the FCC to support safe deployment of the LightSquared network with all possible speed.
