We believe the petition is in the public interest because it will accelerate the offering of innovative and potentially life—saving services to the public safety community. . Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is a division of the MDPS and is a first responder, State police agency in the State of Mississippi. MDPS/MHP is the lead Emergency Support Function Agency (ESF13) in MS as outlined in State law under title 33 and 45. MDPS has been a customer of SkyTerra since 2005, and has found SkyTerra‘s land mobile services to be instrumental in furthering our mission of protecting public safety and saving lives in our community. We currently use 30 terminals for SkyTerra‘s services. We understand that SkyTerra‘s petition for modification of its ATC authority will facilitate the deployment of its next—generation system, which will have smaller, less expensive user devices and enable our access to mobile Internet applications. We strongly believe that this would be a positive development, and opens the doorway to the provision of a much more flexible and advanced generation of broadband services at affordable rates within this band. As a current customer of SkyTerra, we can confirm to the Commission that it is a valued vendor to our community, and we would fully expect SkyTerra to develop a range of needed advanced services for public safety should its modification be approved. In our opinion, this would significantly advance the public interest. Accordingly, we respectfully request that the FCC grant SkyTerra‘s petition, and thank you in advance for your consideration.
