Dear Ms. Dortch:

         The DIRECTV Group, Inc. ("DIRECTV"), as successor in interest to Hughes
Network Systems, Inc., hereby withdraws the pending application for minor modification
of its Ka-band satellite system authorization at the 99" W.L. orbital location, which has
been assigned the file number referenced above. DIRECTV will file a superseding
application for minor modification of this authorization that reflects hrther developments
in its satellite currently under construction.
