                   MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME

       Motorola Global Communications, Inc. ("Motorola") respectfully requests

an extension of time until February 13, 1998 in which to submit its reply to the

comments and petitions filed on December 22, 1997 in response to the

Commission‘s public notices of the above—captioned applications.‘

! See Public Notice, SPB—105 (rel. Oct. 15, 1997); Public Notice, SPB—106 (rel.

      The Commission placed the subject applications on public notice on

October 15, 1997, calling for comments or petitions to be filed by December 1,

1997, replies and oppositions by December 22, 1997, and responses by

January 6, 1998. Subsequently, in response to a joint motion by Loral Space &

Communications Ltd., GE American Communications, Inc., Lockheed Martin

Corporation and Hughes Communications Galaxy, Inc., the Commission granted

an extension of time until December 22, 1997 in which to file comments, until

January 12, 1998 for replies, and until January 22, 1998 for responses.

      Comments and petitions representing the GSO/FSS, NGSO/FSS and FS

Ka—band communities were filed on December 22 by Fixed Point—to—Point

Communications Section, Wireless Communications Division,

Telecommunications Industry Association; GE American Communications, Inc.;

Hughes Communications Galaxy, Inc.; KaStar Satellite Communications Corp.;

Loral Space & Communications, Ltd.; Teledesic Corporation; and the Satellite

Coalition (consisting of five Ka—band GSO licensees). Most of these parties

served Motorola by U.S. mail, which resulted in counsel for Motorola formally

receiving the documents up to a week later. This, coupled with the end—of—year

work schedules of technical specialists and the complexity of the technical issues

raised by the seven sets of petitions and comments filed, requires more than the

allotted remaining two weeks until January 12 for Motorola to respond.

      All of the comments filed in response to Motorola‘s applications raise

Oct. 15, 1997).

complex technical and legal issues. Several contain highly detailed technical

appendices, and some include lists of specific technical questions. In view of the

complexity of the Celestri®‘® System and its attendant spectrum sharing solutions,

evaluation of the technical issues raised by the comments and petitions warrants

additional time in which to respond.

         Accordingly, Motorolé respectfully requests that the Commission extend

the filing period for replies and oppositions in this proceeding until February 13,

1998.‘

                                          Respectfully submitted,

                                       _—_Motorola Global Communications, Inc.
