The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya wishes to extend its support and approval of
AfriSpace System which will provide satelilite sound broadcasting to Africa and the Middle
East.

The Federation of Women Lawyers is non—profit, non—political and non governmental
organization of women lawyers committed to the enhancement of the legal status of
Kenyan women through legal services, monftoring women‘s rights, lobbying, advocacy
education and referral, FIDA Kenya implements this broad mandate through a number of
programmes on legal services, women‘s rights monitoring and report writing, gender
violence/legal awareness, paralegal training and training and outreach activities to the
general public. FIDA Kenya is concerned with all violations of human rights including denial
of freedoms guaranteed through the Universal Deciaration of Human Rights among them
freedom of speech, freedom from violence and mvpeduments to inheritance. particulariy as
they relate to women.

FIDA Kenya is extremely interested in utilizing the AfriSpace System to advance its
activities. The AfriSpace System could be used to disseminate information to members and
women in general; to communitcate with counterparts in other Africa countries and; to
support the organization‘s legal advoecacy activities. The AtfriSpace System will provide
national and continental coverage that is not possible using traditional terregtrig!
broadcasting technology.

The AfriSpace System represents an Important tool for organizstions sushas FIDA Kenya
that seek to improve the status of women. Please take this into consideration when
reviewing the AfriSpace application and approve its use for the good of women in Africa.
