Mechanical plating is carried out in container which is simultaneously slowly rotated and rapidly axially reciprocated. The container may be mounted at one end of a cantilevered leaf spring, a single motor simultaneously rotating the container and driving eccentric weights which sinusoidally deflect the spring. Plated parts, liquid, impact media, and other barrel contents may be discharged into one end of an operatively connected open end separating or posttreating drum which tumbles the parts when rotated in one direction and discharges them from the other end when rotated in the opposite direction.
