A radio telephone system such as a car telephone having a function of selectively allowing a party communicating with a user of the telephone system to transmit a voice signal to the user during a hold state set by the user. When a predetermined time elapses after a hold state is set by the user of the telephone system, the system allows the party to transmit a voice signal to the user even during the hold state.
