The equipment in this trial consists of two experimental UHF-band software-defined radio units designed and built by Rice University in cooperation with Vuum Inc. Since this equipment is NOT FCC licensed (it is experimental, under development, and not intended for commercial use), an FCC experimental license and manual operation with an FCC-certified spectrum database from either Google Inc. or Spectrum Bridge Inc is required for over-the-air operation.

Please explain the purpose of operation:
The equipment in this trial consists of two experimental UHF-band software-defined radio units designed and built by Rice University in cooperation with Vuum Inc separated by no more than 1 km distance. The demonstration and measurement, lasting approximately one hour, will consist of sending bidirectional packetized data from both nodes in order to demonstrate and test the performance of a broadband, long-range data link in the challenging spectral environment of the New Orleans area. The transmit waveform is 5 MHz TDD OFDM at transmit powers less than 100mW in order to conform with Title 47 CFR Part 15.While the exact date of the demo is yet to be determined, we would like to obtain permission to operate the demo and measurement in the next two weeks, while a second, identical test will be performed several months later. To save time, we are asking for a single experimental license to cover both trials.
