Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Testing to evaluation of the suitability of DSRC technology. The objective of this testing is to continue evaluation of the suitability of DSRC technology for grade crossing protection through characterization of DSRC performance as well as the wireless propagation environment under simulated conditions at Virginia Tech. Both DSRC on-board units and wireless propagation and EMI measurement systems will be installed on a mobile unit (either actual or simulated train engine); DSRC road-side units and wireless propagation receivers will be installed at several wayside locations around a local test track. The objective of this testing is to evaluate the suitability of DSRC technology for grade crossing protection through characterization of DSRC performance as well as the wireless propagation environment under simulated conditions at Virginia Tech..
