Please explain the purpose of operation:
Two transceivers will operate as low power, low rate, crosslink communications radios aboard high altitude balloons. The transceivers will send periodic bursts every 10 seconds between the balloons to exchange information in order to characterize the crosslink communications channel. The antenna will be fixed to a high altitude balloon operating at 50,000ft to 68,000ft, above commercial aviation cruising altitudes. During payload ascent/descent an ADS-B transponder will be active notifying aircraft in the vicinity of the balloon/payload position. The operations team is in close communications with FAA representatives during critical phases of the flight.
