Valerann is a start-up in the field of smart infrastructure, specifically roads. We recently won an innovation competition run by TransUrban, operators of the I-95/I-495 expressway in Virginia. As part of this competition we have been given a last minute opportunity to do a small scale deployment as part of our R&D process of our smart road system on the I-95 to study our systems capabilities and collect valuable data to refine our systems performance. One of he key components of our system is its wireless communications, for which we need FCC approval to operate once fully operational. Our product is still in R&D phase, and thus we cannot begin the formal FCC certification process. However, we need to be able to do small scale testing to ensure the reliability of the product, once it is final;This experiment will last two weeks and will use experimental radio devices, and therefore we wish to request Special Temporary Authorisation to use our systems vital radio communications.

Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Our smart road system collects all of the road traffic data required by road operators. This deployment, in partnership with TransUrban, will serve two purposes. Firstly, it will expose our system to live road conditions, allowing us to collect vital road traffic information that we will use in refining our algorithms. Secondly, it will allow us to test our communications protocol with the levels of interference expected on highways. This environment is very difficult to simulate in controlled environments; thus this trial presents an unparalleled opportunity to test our system in the real-world.
