Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Telephonics has many Military, Government, and commercial customers using our existing 2.4 GHz ISM band TruLink product (FCC-ID RQASRR300ME and RQASRR300AP) we are taking TruLink into the 300-400 MHz band for Military use. The impetus for these frequencies has come from the Mounted Soldier Systems Group under PM SWAR and a desire to achieve superior communications in urban environments as would be offered by this frequency range as compared to the 2.4 GHz ISM band. TruLink® operates as a short range wireless intercommunication system. TruLink is extremely versatile; deployable either as a stand-alone system or integrated with legacy wired intercom and radio systems. When so integrated, TruLink® extends the communications of wired intercom systems within, and radio links between, aircraft, ships, and land vehicles. TruLink® operates reliably in high audio and high electronic noise environments and is resistant to shock, vibration, moisture, sand, dust, and extreme temperatures. TruLink is currently employed on various US Military fixed and rotary wing aircraft as well as US Coast Guard vessels. TruLink® is different from traditional 2-way radios in that it provides true intercom capability, where multiple users/groups can maintain simultaneous communications (conferences) and have access to wired assets. TruLink® features include: * Full Duplex Communication * 50 user selectable channels; 31 operators per channel * Six (6) Simultaneous (conferencing) Mobile Talkers per channel * 2.4 GHz license-free band (current product) and 300-400 MHz (new product in development) * Spread Spectrum Adaptive Frequency Hopping * Autonomous Mobile Operation * No Fixed Base Station/Repeater Required * Long Battery Life, 8-Hour minimum. * Uses Commercial Rechargeable AA Ni-MH, or AA Alkaline, Lithium Disposable, or Lithium Ion Rechargeable Batteries * VOX or PTT * VOX is full digital DSP-Controlled * System fully ruggedized to various military specifications. * External microphone and headset required for voice communications. TruLink utilizes a proprietary air interface most. Operating as a 300-400 MHz device its defining characteristics for which we seek experimental license are as follows: DESCRIPTION VALUE PHY * Frequency Band 300 MHz - 400 MHz * Freq. Channel Bandwidth 300 KHz * 3 dB Freq. Channel Bandwidth 192 KHz * Frequency Utilization AFHSS 50 HPS * Modulation 4 DQPSK * RF Power Output 250 mW max, 100 mW typical, configurable 10-250 mW * Channel Symbol Rate 192 KBd (Ksps) * Channel Gross Bit Rate 384 Kbps MAC * Access Type TDMA, Proprietary * Frame Size 20 mS * Frame Alignment Master Beacon, Static (no advance/retard) * Slot Count 16 Slots/Frame NETWORK * Network Type Master/Slave, Proprietary * Duplexing TDD, Half Duplex (providing apparent full duplex audio for all users) We currently have working prototypes in the 300-400 MHz band, at present only used in RF shielded laboratory environment. We are ready to bring the units into the open for continued development, testing, and demonstration. Thus we have the need to obtain a license as soon as possible. Each TruLink system in test typically consists of 2 to 5 transceivers; for development we would typical operate one system, with occasional operation of up to three systems. Our locations of operation would be as follows: - At our Telephonics corporate and engineering offices at 815 Broad Hollow Road, Farmingdale, NY 11735 and 770 Park Avenue, Huntington NY 11741 - RETLIF Labs, 795 Marconi Avenue, Ronkonkoma NY 11779 - Dayton T. Brown Labs, 1175 Church Street, Bohemia NY 11716 - In addition we will have a need to participate in demonstrations with our military customers. The first demonstration is schedule for March 9, 2011 for the part and location as follows: COL Wil Riggins Project Manager Soldier Warrior 10125 Kingman Rd Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-5820 ofc: (703) 704-3816 Being adaptive frequency hopping with fully programmable hop sets we can omit frequency sub ranges, for example those used by the FAA between 328.6-335.4 MHz.
