STA is necessary to authorize space-to-space, space-to-Earth, and Earth-to-space links for the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, in connection with the next commercial resupply run to the International Space Station (ISS) under NASAs Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) program. The launch date for this mission is currently scheduled for no earlier than 09 October 2012, from Cape Canaveral.
