Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Record heat, intense drought and powerful and desiccating Santa Ana winds has proven to be quite a combustible combination, producing dangerous wildfires in Southern California nearly all year. The Santa Ana winds blow mostly in autumn and winter, with September 1st typically being the start of fire season in California. In 2014, the winds and other conditions have been present most of 2014, severely exacerbating the wildfire situation in San Diego and the surrounding area. SDG&E will host various representatives from public safety agencies the first week in September, including the National Weather Service, NOAA, CAL FIRE, and the US Forrest Service. These agencies intend to participate in SDG&E’s testing of the wind profilers that are the subject of the instant STA. The STA is urgently needed to support SDG&E’s efforts to provide fire-fighting and mitigation efforts; it is critical to the public safety fire protection efforts in Southern California, and SDG&E requests that this STA be granted as expeditiously as possible.
