Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Republic Wireless wishes to conduct field tests of a new prototype wireless device in order to obtain data about device usage in typical deployment scenarios. During this experiment, Republic Wireless will provide a limited number of devices to employees and current Republic Wireless customers to operate, but will not charge any fees associated with the experiment. Republic Wireless has obtained permission to conduct the experiment from the carrier on whose network the devices will operate, and device operations in unlicensed frequency bands will comply with the Part 15 technical rules and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth industry standards. In addition, the devices will be labeled per 47 C.F.R. ยง 2.805(d)(2)(ii) and retrieved upon completion of testing. In a similar situation, because the devices will not be certified, FCC staff advised Republic Wireless to obtain special temporary authority (see call sign WL9XPF). Republic Wireless is submitting this application under the same reasoning.
