Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
In-flight downlink performance and maximum range of the video data link will be characterized. The system consists of an aircraft mounted omni-directional antenna transmitting an EIRP of 48.7 dBm (NTE 75 watts ERP) and a highly directional steerable ground receive only antenna. The flight test will be conducted in the California central valley north of Shafter Minter Field and west of the Sierra Nevada mountains between Shafter and Modesto. The majority of the test will be conducted using visual flight rules below 18,000 ft. Maximum range points requiring altitudes above 18,000 feet will be coordinated real-time and a flight clearance obtained from the FAA.
