Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
MediaFlo technology will be demonstrated at Qualcomm?s annual stockholders meeting in San Diego on March 11, 2008. Qualcomm owns channel 55 (716-722 MHz) in the San Diego area (call sign WPWU989), but commercial service is not expected to launch until mid-March. The incumbent TV station (KFMB-DT) is expected to be relocated to a new frequency in mid-February. If commercial sites are not yet operational on March 11, this STA is required to permit operation to provide MediaFLO coverage during the meeting. If the commercial sites in San Diego are operational, operations from the STA parameters may still be necessary to enhance coverage at the meeting location.
