An STA is necessary to continue tests and perform demonstrations with airborne datalink capabilities in the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz ISM bands. Planned tests have been subject to equipment delivery delays.

Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
The purpose of the operation is to test airborne data link capabilities of new equipment. These operations do not involve jamming, spoofing, and/or performing electronic attack. The aircraft will be manned for these tests. S-band link is used to send aircraft positions to the partner aircraft for payload pointing/tracking, and for communication between the payload operators in the two aircraft.
