Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The STA extension is requested in order to conduct a trail for a limited market study to assist Nokia in evaluating the market potential for its wireless Internet access product. Nokia was originally granted an STA on July 7, 2000 (Call Sign WA9XJQ, File Number 0183-EX-ST-2000) and received an extension on January 7, 2001 (Call Sign WA9XJQ, File Number 0576-EX-ST-2000). This extension expires on July 7, 2001. Concurrent with this extension request, Nokia is filing a request for a five-year experimental license for the underlying project. Therefore, Nokia requests that the STA be extended until either Januray 7, 2002, or the date when the Commission grants Nokia's experimental license request, whichever is earlier. The system will be used for a market study to evaluate the market potential of the product and to evaluate networking/protocol algorithms and their suitability for product release.
