Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation

Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The product will undergo compliance testing and application will be made for certification of the elements that comprise the system. However, prior to completing the design, field testing is required at one or more factory sites to gather information on system performance, examine potential interference issues (including with itself), and determine documentation required of the product. Since the field testing is expected to be relatively short-term, a STA is respectfully requested.

Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation

Please explain the purpose of operation:
The product is a Predictive factory Maintenance (PfM) system and is comprised of two elements that are expected to be under FCC purview. The first is one of several sensor modules typically used in an installation. These modules are mounted to surface of machinery contain vibration and temperature sensing transducers for sensing those conditions of the machine. The transducers are read and controlled by an embedded microprocessor that also conveys its gathered information to a BLE radio. This radio transmits the data to a transponder and receives updated control parameters from the transponder. The transponder is the heart of the system, having its own microcontroller, BLE radio for communicating to one or more sensor modules, and a WiFi radio for communicating to the factorys wireless infrastructure. Optionally, communication between the factory and the transponder may be performed via a hard-wired serial connection. The novelty of the system lies in how the sensor modules are powered. The transponder also consists of a DSSS source operating in the 2.45GHz ISM band, a power amplifier and an integral antenna. The latter has a gain of approximately 10dBi and the conducted power of the amplifier is set to 28.67dBm to achieve compliance to FCC Part 15.247. The transponder is oriented so that the energy-carrying beam is directed to the sensor modules. The modules employ a commercially available rubber duck antenna connected to an SMA connector. Energy collected by this antenna is rectified, boosted and managed by a System in Package (SIP) developed by Nikola Labs. The stored energy is used to support all of the electronic operations of the sensor module. Hence, machine conditions can be relayed to factory maintenance systems in a wireless fashion without the need for replaceable batteries.
