Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Purpose of Operation

Please explain the purpose of operation:
This demo shows a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) wireless system based on cloud radio access networks (C-RANs). It provides a substantial gain in the downlink throughput by allowing multiple users to communicate in the same frequency and time slots. It is a challenge to design transmit beamforming vectors for every user while reducing the co-channel interference (CCI) from other users. At the base station side, a multi-FPGA platform (BEE7) and a computer server are employed as the core of C-RAN, which centrally handles sophisticated signal processing related to transmit beamforming and precoding for the MU-MIMO downlink. The precoded signal vectors are streamed to a MegaBEE unit, called remote radio head (RRH), which transmits signals over eight antennas. At the user side, two nanoBEE units, each with four receive antennas, are utilized to emulate users or user equipment (UE). One advantage of the demo is that adaptive scheduling and optimal transmission algorithms are used to efficiently mitigate the CCI arising from other users sharing common resources. It also outperforms the conventional beamforming scheme.
