Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Applicant seeks Commission consent for the testing and experimentation of a communications system using millimeter wave spectrum for which Allocations and Service Rules have been proposed (FCC 02-180, WT Docket No 02-146). In this experiment, Applicant seeks to test transmissions in the 92-95GHz bands. The purpose of this experiment and operation is to develop a high-speed, communications link which operates in the upper millimeter bands and to demonstrate that Applicant's equipment and technology can provide fiber-optic like access to areas not currently served by fiber optic equipment. The experiment will demonstrate the ability to utilize millimeter wave frequencies for high speed communications in certain weather conditions. In addition, the experiment will establish the distances at which such communications links may be reliably maintained. In order to maintain its testing schedule and development of its equipment, Applicant wishes to begin testing its equipment at this particular California location as soon as possible.
