Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
An STA is requested to support time-sensitive over-the-air testing of a prototype software-defined radio during its current development phase. The testing requires temporary operation between a fixed ground station and a radio installed aboard a small manned aircraft to evaluate communications performance under representative operating conditions. The requested authorization is limited in duration and will support engineering research and development only.

Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
The purpose of this operation is to evaluate the performance of a prototype software-defined radio communications link under representative operating conditions. Testing will characterize point-to-point link reliability, waveform performance, receiver sensitivity, antenna performance, and communications range between a fixed ground station located at MaXentric Technologies facility in La Jolla, California and a radio installed aboard a small manned aircraft operating over the Pacific Ocean offshore of the facility. The results will be used solely for engineering research and development to validate system performance and guide further prototype development.
