We want to test a medical device at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the hospitals Internal Review Board wants us to get an approval from FCC because our device uses Bluetooth Low Energy to communicate with a smartphone. The medical device is for research purposes only and it is being developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Please explain the purpose of operation:
Our medical device will measure bioimpedance from 1 kHz to 1 MHz from patients in the hospital and transmit the data using Bluetooth Low Energy to a smartphone. The Bluetooth chipset used in the medical device is the EM9301 Single-Cell Battery Bluetooth Low Energy Controller from EM Microelectronic. The smartphone used will be either an Apple iPhone or an Apple iPod touch.
