Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Intrepid Networks, LLC respectfully requests a Special Temporary Authority (STA) to operate a prototype communication system on selected channels in the 902MHz - 928MHz band for the purpose of testing and evaluating the performance and reliability of prototype equipment and associated software design to support innovative communications capabilities. The type of STA being requested is for a temporary, non-recurring service for a period of six months, beginning 1 June 2020. Intrepid Networks proposes initially to operate a limited number of low power mobile units both indoors and outdoors at and around its facilities in Orlando, Florida as well as at a test event sponsored by the US Government Department of Defense (DoD) in July 2020 at the Avon Park Air Force Range in Avon Park, Florida. Intrepid Networks has been invited to participate in this DoD / US Special Operations Command test event in order to perform rigorous testing and evaluation as part of the product development process. As such, Intrepid is requesting a six month authorization to support testing and evaluation, seeking to collect sufficient data within that time frame to assess the performance and reliability characteristics of prototype equipment and software and determine if additional research and development is required.

Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Intrepid Networks, LLC respectfully requests a Special Temporary Authority (STA) to operate a prototype communication system on selected channels. The communication device being developed is a small (3.5”x5”x2”) communications device with an embedded GPS receiver that transmits/receives low data rate, brief messages that include position location and short text messages. Intrepid Networks very much appreciates the FCC’s consideration of this STA application that would enable the testing and evaluation of reliability of prototype equipment and software in preparation for, and during, and for a short period after a US Government / Departmebt of Defense testing event taking place during the timeframe of 29 April 2019 - 12 May 2019. As such, we are requesting an STA for a duration of 5 months to begin as soon as possible.
