Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:

Harris Corporation (Harris) respectfully seeks approval of its request for Special Temporary Authorization (STA) to operate in the 700 MHz public safety broadband (Band 14) spectrum to demonstrate Long Term Evolution (“LTE”) in a remote environment surrounding Livermore, CA from August 2, 2013 to August 23, 2013.

Please explain the purpose of operation:

If granted, the STA will be used to create a pilot program in a remote, underserved area so that Harris and other stakeholders can test delivery of LTE in remote settings and rugged geographies. The program will provide coverage in the vicinity of the Morgan Territory Regional Preserve in Livermore, CA. Harris will run, in conjunction with first responder entities and other interested parties, test scenarios and demonstrations evaluating the use and benefits of LTE public safety communications on a dedicated network in wilderness areas. These tests will provide key data on network performance and data delivery in such areas.
