Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This STA is required to provide frequencies for testing a new wideband digital data/voice radio. This radio is being tested for future use by our military in places such as Iraq. To accelerate development of this radio it is desired to expand the testing program that exists in and around the Harris facilities in the Rochester NY area, with additional testing to take place in and around the Harris facilities in the Melbourne Florida area.

Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Testing new wideband digital data/voice vehicular and handheld radios capable of forming a Mobile AD-Hoc network for future military uses. In order to adequately test the radios which have a tunable frequency range of 225MHz to 2000MHz and operational bandwidths selectable from 500KHz to 5MHz it is desired to have three discreet frequencies with bandwidths of 5MHz each. One or two frequencies in the 225MHz - 328.6MHz military band, one or two frequencies in the 335.4MHz - 399.9MHz military band. The radios operate on only a single frequency at a time and typically have a LOS range of 1- 10 Km. The radios form a Mobile AD-Hoc network capable supporting 48 radios or more on a single frequency. Operations would include multiple radios both vehicular and handheld attempting to simulate typical military communications needs in rural, suburban, and urban environments. This request is for a total of three 5MHz bandwidth frequencies. If this request can?t be fully meet, fewer frequencies and/or a mix of 5MHz and 1.2MHz bandwidth frequencies would be very useful. Also a reduction of maximum power output or a smaller area of operations, although not ideal would still allow some level of testing to be accomplished. Three frequencies have been entered into this form, they are representative of where we would like the frequencies to be, but other frequencies near those chosen would be acceptable.
