THE PURPOSE OF THE PROPOSED EXPERIMENTAL TESTING IS TO ESTABLISH A PERFORMANCE BASELINE FOR USING ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING (OFDM) MODULATION SCHEMES TO SOLVE THE DATA COMMUNICATION NEEDS OF THE US NAVY IN THE LITTORAL BATTLE SPACE. THE USE OF 802.11A (OFDM) TECHNOLOGY IN AN EXTENDED RANGE (>50 MILES) WILL RESULT IN A SYSTEM WITH THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS: 1) MODULATION TYPE: 64,16,4-QAM OR QPSK AND BPSK, I.E. 802.11A AND 802.11B PHASE SHIFT KEYING. 2) MULTIPLEXING: OTHOGONONAL FREQUENCY DOMAIN MULTIPLEXING (OFDM) 3) FREQUENCY BAND: 1755 TO 1850 MHZ 4) OCCUPIED TX BW: -3DB 16.5 MHZ, -30 DB 20 MHZ 5) AVERAGE TX POWER: 30 DBM TO 40 DBM 6) REMOTE ANTENNA: OMNIDIRECTIONAL, 360 DEGREE AZIMUTH BEAMWIDTH, 7 DEGREE ELEVATION BEAMWIDTH, 12 DBI 7) HUB ANTENNA (AT SHORE LINE): SECTOR ANTENNA, 40 DEGREE AZIMUTH BEAMWIDTH, 7 DEG ELEVATION BEAMWIDTH, 19.6 DBI
