Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
I am a Ph.D. student and working at MPACT group of Elect. and Comp. Eng. Dept. of Florida International University (FIU). We are planning to conduct experimentation at the Wall of Wind (WoW) facility inside FIU Engineering Center. WoW can generate hurricanes of different categories. The experiments are scheduled to use DSRC band (5.85-5.925 GHz) and U-NII Mid band (5.25-5.35 GHz). The performance of those two bands under special conditions of hurricane is to be investigated. This experiment can help us to closely study the peroformance of those bands under hurricane and disaster conditions and may help to modify the existing protocol architecture for special scenarios. The main communication equipment used in the experimentation will be Universal Software Radio Peripherals (USRP) Rio.

Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
The purpose of operation is to test the performance of two bands DSRC (5.85 - 5.925 GHz) and U-NII-2 (5.25 - 5.35 GHz) under special conditions of hurricane. The study is expected to provide us an insight in to the performance metric and resilience of protocols implemented in those bands under emergency conditions of hurricane and disaster. It may help us to suggest some modifications to the existing protocols. The study is funded by NSF. In order to generate hurricanes, Wall of Wind (WoW) facility located at Florida International Univesity (FIU) will be used. WoW can generate different categories of hurricanes in real time. Universal Software Radio Peripherals (USRP) Rios will be used for transmission and reception of data. The experiment will be conducted inside the WoW facility.
