Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
EchoStar requests authority to continue its experimental testing that was authorized in experimental STA File No. 0669-EX-ST-2005 (Call Sign WC9XDY) for an additional 6 months. EchoStar is requesting authority to conduct tests in frequency controlled by the government because the WiMax equipment that is being tested is made by a foreign manufacturer and operates in frequencies that are allocated to WiMax operations in other parts of the world. For the purpose of testing the product, it was not feasible to have the manufacturer change the operating frequencies to U.S. commercial WiMax frequencies. If the test is successful and EchoStar decides to order the equipment, the order will be contingent on the equipment being modified to work in appropriate band for commercial WiMax service in the United States.
