Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation

Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
To Whom It May Concern: Please accept this letter as a formal application for a Special Temporary Authority (STA) pertaining to the following product development. Curtiss Wright / Vista Controls (CW/VC) is developing an Ultra-WideBand (UWB) radar system known as QUPID. QUPID is an acronym for QUick reaction Perimeter Intrusion Detection sensor. The QUPID sensor is being developed under government contract # . The following information is included to comply with the requirements listed under section 5.61 of the CFR pertaining to obtaining an STA for experimental operation. The STA is required so that CW/VC may continue its development, test, and introduction of the QUPID product. Operation of the QUPID sensor will take place at our facility at 30 Porter Rd. in Littleton, Massachusetts, 01460. Latitude = 42/31.711 longitude = 71/30.869

Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Purpose of Operation

Please explain the purpose of operation:
The timetable required for operation is continuous from the present time, through to the end of the 6 month period of the STA. If required, CW/VC will apply for an extension by submitting an application for a regular experimental license at least 15 days before the expiration date of the STA. This is as prescribed in section 5.61b. The class of station is fixed. The frequency of operation of the UWB transmitter extends from 2154 MHz to 3013 MHz at the 10 dB points of the radiated spectrum. Thus the transmitter 10 dB bandwidth is 859 MHz. The peak power is 4.4 watts EIRP in a 50 MHz bandwidth. There is no information modulation as the device is a radar system. It is a pulsed transmission; with a Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) being a dithered 2.441 KHz rate. The QUPID is designed to be operated at a typical height of up to 10 meters above ground. Up to 10 sensors will be operated simultaneously. Regards, David Masucci RF/Microwave Engineer Vista Controls 30 Porter Rd. Littleton, Ma. 01460
