Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF STA: CHK Wireless, USA (?CHK Wireless?) herewith requests a six-month extension of the Experimental Special Temporary Authorization (?STA?; Call Sign WB9XMP) granted May 1, 2001, with an expiration date of November 1, 2001. The justification for this request is based on the following. The STA indicates testing of the authorized wireless devices at five locations within the U.S. However, because of production issues, the equipment has only been deployed at one of the five intended sites covered by the STA grant. The delay in deployment has been further hampered by technical production issues arising out of the installation of FCC-compliant antennas on the equipment, which has resulted in production scheduling problems. In addition, because the Commission?s Equipment Authorization procedures require test measurements of ?production? equipment, CHK Wireless has been unable to submit its application for equipment authorization. Consequently, an extension of its STA for a period of six additional months will enable CHK Wireless to resolve its production issues and proceed with the preparation of its application for equipment authorization. Also, the requested extension will allow for additional testing of the core measurement technology in a ?real world? environment prior to finalizing the design for the production equipment.
