Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Applicant is a video production company which provides video for broadcast, satellite broadcast and cablecast of sporting and other events. Applicant has certain LTTS, BAS and private wireless licenses for this purpose. However, the applicant has been engaged to provide video production services for the upcoming Bob Hope Classics Professional Golfer Associational Palm Springs, California on January 11 through January 20, 2008. Available channels for voice audio to coordinate video production activities are extremely limited due to use by other licensees in the Palm Springs area. Applicant requires the use of additional UHF channels for portable, two-way voice communications for this event on a short-term, temporary basis. Proposed is the use of 482-488 MHz, Television channel 16. Applicant has conducted an interference study using the Commissions television channel database. The nearest co-channel television station is TV Translator station K16FI, which is approximately 24 from the golf course but is completely shielded by mountain terrain from the event site. The next nearest television station is over 80 miles away. Therefore, no interference from this low power operation to television viewers is predicted. Should any interference be complained of, applicant will cease use of the 482-488 MHz band immediately, unless remedied. The Commission has previously granted an identical STA for these events at this location in the past.
