Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Additional video and two-way voice channels are needed in order to facilitate video production at the PGA Golf Championship, held this year at the Medinah Country Club in Medina, Illinois during August 15 through 20, 2006, and at the NEC World Series of Golf to be held this year at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio during August 21 through 27, 2006. There is a shortage of broadcast auxiliary spectrum and LTTS channels for video production at these two major, televised golf tournaments, which, due to viewers needs, require a large number of video channels at each venue. Use of ITFS channels for video transmission and use of a vacant television channel at each venue for FM voice transmission to coordinate video production at each hold during and preparatory to the golf tournaments is necessary. The applicant has coordinated all FM voice operation in the television band with the local Society of Broadcast Engineers frquency coordinator prior to initiating operation, and has made arrangements individually with all ITFS licensees in the area prior to initiating operation. The same authority was obtained for prior PGA and NEC golf tournaments for the past several years, adn each time successfully and without any interference issues.
