Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Applicant is a video production company which provides video for broadcast, satellite broadcast and cablecast of sporting and other events. Applicant has certain LTTS, BAS and private wireless licenses for this purpose. However, there are not enough low power auxiliary channels available to coordinate video production activities in connection with the Indy Racing League (IRL) and American Le Mans Series (ALMS) automobile races at the Grand Prix of Long Beach in Long Beach, California during the period April 14 through April 20, 2009. The STA is necessary to enable the applicant to use low power voice portable transceivers on a T-band channel (in this case Channel 17 (488-494 MHz), in lieu of normal low power broadcast auxiliary channels for which the applicant is licensed. The local Southern California Frequency Coordination Committee database administrator has advised that BAS channels are unavailable for this event at this location due to local users needs. Therefore, the short term use of the requested T-band channels is necessary.
