Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of several 2 GHz frequencies for the purpose of providing portable video televised network coverage of the presidential inauguration and related events in Washington, DC from the period of January 17 through January 23, 2009. In addition, frequencies in the television channels 16, 19 and 21 are also being requested for the purpose of providing logistical support. Numerous frequencies and transmitter units are being requested due to the magnitude of this event and the number of television staff that will require coordination. Broad Comm provides radio frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use these frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the requested frequency bands. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1.0 W on 2 GHz frequencies) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover this event.
