Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of the frequencies 2367 and 2384 MHz for the purpose of providing portable video as well as 506.25 to 511.75 MHz (in TV channel 20) for the purpose of providing coordination and logistical support of TV production of the televised network coverage of The New York City Marathon and related events from the period of October 25 through November 20, 2009. Broad Comm provides radio frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use these frequencies (2.3 GHz) to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 1 & 2 GHz frequency bands. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1.0 W) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover the event. AFTRCC coordination has been requested and received for this event. The number of units requested is to satisfy the needs to cover an event of this magnitude.
