Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation

Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of frequencies in the 1-2 GHz range for the purpose of providing portable video for the televised network coverage of the U. S. Open Tennis event and related activities from the period of August 20 through September 14, 2010 at Flushing NY. Broad Comm provides radio frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use the 1-2 GHz frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 1-2 GHz frequency band. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. The large number of frequencies and transmitter units requested are required to support an event of this magnitude. AFTRCC coordination has been requested and received for this event.
