Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of frequencies in the 2 GHz frequency range and in television channel 16 (482-488 Mhz) for the purpose of providing portable video and logistics support for the televised network coverage of the BMW Championship Golf event and related activities from the period of September 4 to October 1, 2009 at Lemont, IL. Broad Comm provides radio frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use the 2 GHz frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 2 GHz frequency band. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1.0 W) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover the event. AFTRCC coordination has been requested for use of 2367 and 2384 MHZ for this event and will be provided prior to the event. The number of units requested is to satisfy the logistics needs to provide coverage of a large golf event.
