Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of the frequencies in the 2 GHz range for the purpose of providing portable video for the televised network coverage of The Senior Open Golf event and related activities at Sammamish, WA for the period of July 25 through August 1, 2010. Broad Comm provides radio frequency support services to broadcasters and broadcast network entities for coverage of major events. The FCC has granted Broad Comm and others similar requests for several previous events. Broad Comm requests authority to use these frequencies to permit use of portable video camera transmitters that operate in the 2 GHz frequency bands. Hardware limitations prevent operation of these cameras in spectrum reserved for broadcast auxiliary operations. Additionally, operation of these low power transmitters (1.0 W) on broadcast auxiliary frequencies is not spectrally efficient considering the possible need for spectrum by local broadcasters to cover the event. Broad Comm previously filed a separate STA request for frequencies for this event. This request is to supplement the previous request as it has been determined that the previously requested frequencies will not be sufficient to cover this event. The number of frequencies being requested here is to allow for the fact that some of them may not always be available for use due to being shared with other users.
