Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
37-This regards a request by Broad Comm, Inc. (Broad Comm) for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to allow use of a number of frequencies to provide video and aural coverage to at least 70 television stations as well as ground support and logistics for a Red Bull Air Race World Series 2007 event. This event including setup and pre-event activities will take place at Monument Valley, Utah (near Gouldings Lodge 22 miles north of Kayenta, AZ on highway 163) over the period from May 7 through May 13, 2007. Due to the remote location and low power of the proposed operation no interference to existing authorized facilities is anticiapted. Immediate action is requested because of the following. This request is regarding an air show in a very remote part of the country, on the border of Utah and Arizona. Because there was much uncertainty regarding what equipment was going to be available for this event, I was forced to hold off the application until the list was complete. The uncertainty is due to the fact that some of this equipment has been and will again be used Iraq as well as potentially in Iran. This is a very large and potentially hazardous event for the pilots and the many thousands of attendees. Public safety concerns are paramount. Communications is key to minimizing the risks to the public and the pilots. Wireless video cameras will continually monitor the speeding planes as they race through canyons and around the mountains. The timing and risk is comparable to the Blue Angels, with the added uncertainty of a true air race
