Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Two-way mobile voice communications for security and event coordination. The Commission has granted similar STAs for this event over the past several years. The justification for the number of portable transceivers is that this number of portables was actually used in each of the past four years. It is the largest of all the PGA golf tournaments and draws tens of thousands of attendees each year. The radios are used for organization and security, including public safety for the crowd. The tournament is sponsored by the Dallas Salesmanship Club. The club retains off-duty police officers from the Town of Irving, Texas to assist with security and crowd control. Each of these officers is equipped with radios for this purpose. There are well-known thunderstorms in the area at this time of year, and crowd security is critical. Radios are used for crowd control to move crowds off the course in the event of a thunderstorm. Other uses for the portables include shuttles for attendees from off-site parking, parking attendants, general security, and operations personnel for scheduling and administration of the tournament. All units will be deployed, save for a few spares kept for backup purposes. Applicant presently holds a trunked, industrial/business license with the call sign WNSN446, which has a fixed base site in Dallas, TX at 32-46-48.5 North, 96-48-14.0 W. The golf tournament site is only eight miles from the fixed site. The frequencies, emissions, power and other parameters do not exceed the licensed facilities. Up to 300 portables will be deployed around the event site and used by security personnel and event staff for emergency communications and coordination of the event. All operation will be well within the licensed interference contour of the licensed PLMR station WNSN446. An identical STA was issued for this event one year ago.
