Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
ASTRA has been operating an HF Doppler sounder for over a year at/near this site. The Air Force has funded us to develop an improvement to the ASTRA HF Doppler system by using a chirp instead of CW. They would like us to validate our new system in support of the solar eclipse on August 21st. This would complement the existing HF Doppler data by providing a reflection height, which is not possible with a CW system. Once validated, a longer-term installation will be identified and a license requested.
