Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation

Please explain the purpose of operation:

The Electromagnetic Interference Susceptibility Test shall be performed in order to demonstrate that the use of on-board mobile cell phones does not cause interference on any electrical equipment installed on the aircraft while on the ground. Any wireless service is linked with electromagnetice field emmission. These services are seperated from the aircraft electromagnetic spectrum. A direct influence on the aircrafts navigation and communication systems is not expected, but a susceptibility investigation is considered neccessary as the electromagnetic field levels are in the close vicinity of the signal sources might raise to levels that cause interference. The testing will concentrate on demonstating the electromagnetic compatiblity of RF bands used for CDMA, GSM, PDC and UMTS cell phones within a aircraft enviroment. The test procedures will use the guidance from RTCA/DO-294 and RTCA/DO-307. This testing will occur only on the ground and the system will be deactivated once the testing is complete
