Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
The demonstration will consist of a point-to-point downlink (in both RHCP and LHCP) from an Akash GaN transmitter, on a 12U low earth orbit cubesat (referred to as MCNAIR), to an existing 13.2 m earth station (ES) in Ka-band. The Ka-band ES is located in Dongara, Australia, and is owned and operated by the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC). The MCNAIR satellite will also be equipped with an S-band Software Defined Radio (SDR) for telecommand and tracking. The S-band SDR will receive telecommand signals from and transmit telemetry to a 3.7 m earth station located in Svalbard that is owned and operated by KSAT. Akash Systems Inc. will use this experiment to demonstrate the technical capability of its GaN Transmitter. There will not be a return (receive) link to the Akash GaN Transmitter, and Ka-band transmission will only occur when the satellite is in view of the ES in Dongara, Australia. All emissions will cease after the completion of the six-month demonstration. Please see Exhibit 1 for more information on the demonstration plan and objectives.
