EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAM

Experiment Description As an antenna manufacturer, ViaSat designs and produces a variety of antennas supporting a wide variety of frequencies. The request for Special Temporary Authority (STA) is in support of a customer requirement to test the S band antenna system at full power level over the air – communications with an operational satellite is not part of this test. During the test process, while transmitting, the antenna elevation is set to 90 degrees to insure that no power is radiated toward any operating satellite. The antenna system being tested is 9.1 m in diameter, but its height is well below the height of nearby buildings and does not present a hazard to aircraft. ViaSat maintains a 7/24 hour network operations center which can be reached at 1-888- 772-2732. Any on-duty technician can contact the test engineers an initiate a termination of transmissions in the event that interference is suspected.
