FCC FORM 422 IN SUPPORT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS
APPLICATION FOR AN EXPERIMENTAL READIO LICENSE AT 13.4, 35.6 AND
94.92 GHZ.

Item 12: The application is a state university (Univ. of Massachusetts in Amherst).

Further information:

A. The broadcast license for use in radar is part of a grant given to the university of
Massachusetts by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA); Grant
number NNX06AE18G: “Triple-Frequency Radar Measurements for CloudSat
Validation Measurement Mission Science”.

B.) The purpose of this experimental license is to operate a mobile, ground-based radar
operating at three frequencies to study the microphysical an d dynamic properties of
storms and clouds. Use of the three frequencies will allow for determinations to be made
relating to the sizes and number density of particles that compose these atmospheric
targets. The radars constructed are also capable of measuring Doppler velocity ,another
important parameter in studying weather dynamics.
